PANEL Recap

The Design Hotels™ & SPG Collaboration in Action

Gramercy Park Hotel was the first Design Hotels™ property to join SPG. What started as a very manual process has now been automated, allowing us to see real-time and efficient updating of inventory. The important thing is to educate all stakeholders, from the team at each property to the revenue managers. SPG accounts for 10 percent of our business, and has especially helped in tough months for us like August. Moreover, Starwood’s data engine allows us to target specific audiences. Also key to know is that SPG members crave recognition. But you can’t upgrade everyone if there’s no space, so we take the opportunity to engage them on a personal level, be it a Champagne toast, morning jog, etc. We also communicate that we are a Design Hotels™ property first and with SPG second. So it’s possible to be a part of SPG and leverage scale but remain independent.
